The Perfect Protein Coffee!

Hey Friends!

One of the questions I get asked most often is “How do I make my protein coffee/latte?” Well, you are in luck because I am dedicating an entire post to it! I am going to share with you the tools, products, and techniques to make the perfect protein coffee or latte every single time (and my personal fave)! No more ordering out because you can make your own delicious low-sugar coffee at home that you will look forward to every morning! I rarely order coffee out because I just love my lattes and I know you will too!

Tools you need:

Coffee and Machines:

Obviously for a protein coffee you need your COFFEE! You can do a regular cup of coffee or if you like lattes, get something that can make you an espresso! I personally have the Nespresso machine and use it every day, but you can use any coffee maker you like!

Milk Frother (electric or handheld):

    • This handheld milk frother is great for mixing protein into a full cup of coffee. This is also good to have to mix any powder into liquid!! Works like a charm
    •  I have this milk frother and it works PERFECTLY for blending your milk and protein together. It evens heats it up for the perfect latte too

Protein:

The most important part of the protein latte or coffee is the PROTEIN! I have tried a few proteins and can attest these are the best!

  • Clean Simple Eats: Use Code: Bekslife. I personally have tried and love the vanilla flavor in coffee
  • Pescience: Snickerdoodle is so yum in coffee and vanilla is always a classic favorite!
  • 1st Phorm: I have used both the caramel latte and the pumpkin spice in coffee!
  • Vegan/Dairy-Free: When it comes to using vegan protein, I recommend using a premade shake like Owny instead of a powder. I find vegan/dairy-free shakes don’t mix as well. I have tried this one and liked it!
  • Unflavored Protein: Sometimes you might not want to add any flavor or sweeteners. This is one my friend personally uses and loves!
  • Collagen: if you want to try collagen I highly recommend this one in coffee. Truly has no flavor and blends seamlessly. I have tried lots of unflavored collagens and this is the one I go back to!

Extra flavorings and creamer:

These are totally optional and could be a way to make things more fun! Especially if you are using unflavored protein. In regards to creamer, I am not going to be a stickler on this. Choose what you like and if weight loss is a goal, monitor the portion and account for it!

For syrups:
  • Torani seems to be a fan favorite for syrups! this is a variety pack of the regular. They also offers sugar-free but I personally am not a fan of that one!
  • This is a sugar-free brand that has good reviews. I have not tried but worth a look!
  • If you really want to make it fun you could even top your coffee with some whipped cream! This is optional but sometimes that just makes my day!

Now let’s get into HOW to make the coffee. You got the ingredients, you got the tools let’s get to creating the perfect PROTEIN COFFEE!

Basic Hot Protein Coffee:

  • 1 brewed cup of coffee, hot
  • 1/3 scoop of your protein powder
  • splash of creamer or milk * optional
  • 1 scoop collagen * Also optional
    • This is the most basic of them all. You add a little bit of your protein to the cup and you use a handheld milk frother to mix it together. Some protein powders mix better if the coffee isn’t so hot so using a splash of milk or creamer is a good way to cool it down.
    • It is important to not use a full scoop of protein. This is a mistake people make and wonder why theirs isn’t mixing right! Too much protein will make your coffee super grainy and gross. 1/3 scoop is the perfect amount to get the flavor and about 8g of additional protein.

Protein Latte, Hot:

  • Double espresso brewed
  • .5-3/4 cup of your milk of choice
  • 1/3 scoop of your protein powder
  • Creamer or flavorings of choice * optional
    • This is how I prefer to make my coffee in the morning. I will use my Nespresso machine to brew me a double espresso pod as the coffee base. In my electric milk frother I will put in about 1/2 cup of milk ( I use the ultra-filtered milk since it is higher in protein and lower in sugar), 1/3 scoop of protein powder of choice, and turn on the frother. I love using the electric milk frother because it will mix and heat the milk/protein for you! Once complete add the frothed milk/protein to your espresso and enjoy!

Protein Latte, Iced:

  • Brewed double espresso, over ice
  • 1/2-1 cup milk of choice * see notes
  • 1/3 scoop protein powder of choice or 1/2 cup of premade protein shake of choice
  • For all my ice latte lovers this is a great way to do this protein latte on ice. There are two ways you can do this! You want to brew your espresso over ice so it is nice and cold. If you have a premade shake you like, you can simply just add that to the iced espresso, and boom you are done. If you are using powder you will want to use your handheld milk frother to froth the milk and protein prior to adding it to your iced espresso!

Protein Cold Brew/ Iced Coffee:

  • Brewed cold brew
  • Protein powder of choice or premade shake
  • Syrups/creamers of choice * Optional
    • My friend makes her own protein coffee like this as a cold brew/ ice coffee and this is how she makes hers. She will put iced coffee, 1 scoop unflavored protein and her flavorings of choice into a shaker bottle to blend it up. I bet this would work with a flavored protein powder too!

I hope this helped get you started on rocking the protein coffee game!!!! I started a few years ago and have never looked back. I even just got in my pumpkin spice protein and ready to feel the FALL vibes for sure!! If you make your own protein coffee make sure to tag me!

xoxo, Beks

Cheers! Beks
